STEP 1 Find MUN and Register it!

In this world, there are many Model United Nations Conferences. You can get the information from MUN Calendar. If you stay at United States, you should contact with United Nations Association-United States of Aerica. If you stay at other countries, you should contact United Nations Association in your countries. If you join Facebook, you can get more info. After you find MUN, you will register it.

STEP2 Prepare for Conference (Logistics)

Sometime, the fee of MUN only cover the conference fee. In this case, you need to book the hotel and other transportation by yourself. I recommend you to book hotel and transportation in early time. the room of hotel or the seat of airplane tend to be sold out.

STEP3 Prepare for Conference (Research) and Make the Strategy.

Model United Nations is the simulation that each participant plays the role of representative. So you need to research for Agenda and the country that you would represent. Usually, the conference provides you the BackGround Guide that explains basic information on the topics(agenda) of your conference.
When you read BackGround Guide, you keep following things in mind.
(a) What is the conflict?
(b) What is interest of your country?
(c) Is there any bad impact from the issue in your country?

The Purpose of diplomacy is to maximize national interest and to minimize the national loss.
Although what BackGround Guide gives you is not enough, so you need to do further research.

BUT You need to know that there is no perfect research.
The definition of national interest and loss is not always same. It depends on the structure of national-political, social or economic system, international relationship or personal character.
For example, the personal character(idea) of president has strong power to change policy in United States.(like from J.W.Bush Jr to Obama.) But the political system is also strong factor in United States. President Obama would like to promote Green Policy but the majority of Upper House is republican. So He needs to work together with them.

The important thing is to think the reason of past action at the sight of structure and guess the system of policy decision. Then, you can make better policy to improve the benefit.

You also need to check country list before attending conference.
In United Nations, you need to make majority for winning negotiation. So country list is really important. After you find your country policy, you should look for similar country and make the plan that your idea goes to majority(and adopt it).

STEP4 Also Prepare for Socializing!!

In almost Model United Nations conferences, they provides the social events as well as conference. You will be the delegate at daytime, but you may be the dancer at night. Although you feel it is like fun-game, I would like to say the party time is also one of negotiation. The important negotiation always takes place in informal.
And I also recommend you to prepare for business card. In MUN, there are many potential participants who will be the change makers in near future. If you want to make differences in this world, it would be good opportunities to make the good network.

STEP5 Enjoy your conference and Review

Although the time to prepare might be not enough, don't worry, it is same for all delegates. You just insist in your will logically.
But, at the Conference, we tend to forget the purpose. So I recommend you to set the expected outcome of conference and goal of each day. it would help your activities to set short term goal and long term goal.
AND Don't forget to take a note when you feel something in the conference.
MUN is like game. But if you want to be the change maker in this world. I recommend you to take a note with your feeling and review it after the conference.
